FIVE years after falling in love recording a chart-topping duet, Almost Here, Brian McFadden and Delta Goodrem have again taken to the studio together.

The high-profile couple often write songs together in private, but this is only their second official collaboration with their song, Mistakes, to feature on McFadden’s new album, Wall Of Soundz.

“We love working together,” said McFadden, of the track.

“The only question we had at the start was that the lyrics aren’t love lyrics – they’re almost half break-up lyrics. But we love creating, almost acting, and getting involved in the song, so it was actually a fun challenge for us.”

The follow-up to his 2008 release, Set In Stone, McFadden worked with songwriter Robert Conley on the album of electro-pop tracks, to be released on April 23.

The album’s first single, Just Say So – a collaboration with American singer Kevin Rudolf – goes to radio this week.

McFadden proposed to Goodrem in 2007 but, with busy schedules, the pair are yet to walk down the aisle.

They’re organising the wedding now, but a date is yet to be set and location is yet to be set and, with Goodrem in the US much of the year, they’re not sure if it’ll be in 2010.”It’s number one on our agenda,” said McFadden, who this week begins filming Seven’s Australia’s Got Talent.

DELTA Goodrem fans will have to wait a little longer for her fourth album. Goodrem goes to LA next month to finish writing her first album since 2007.

“I can’t force it, it’s like catching a lightning bolt writing that song, that song that represents this time in my life,” Goodrem says.

“I’m aware of all the themes I want to talk about, I’m aware of the colour I want it to be.

“I’ve done a lot of collaboration over the years, but right now I’m enjoying writing by myself and just being me again for a while.”

Goodrem has been fixated on Stevie Nicks for the past few years, which has influenced her latest material.

“What resonates with me now is the acoustic guitar and piano. I’m enjoying writing songs that are more stripped back. I’ve done a 360 back to where I started, but hopefully it’s more evolved. I feel I’ve stepped up my game.

“I’m experimenting with different chord changes and different areas of music. I feel I can do anything on this album, I’m relishing that. I feel like the sky’s the limit but at the same time it’s very raw.”

As with all her albums, Goodrem will write and record material in America.

“I need to keep travelling, being a gypsy, having experiences and writing about them. I’m not moving anywhere permanently. I’ll be in LA for a few months but Australia’s always going to be my home.”

Before she leaves, Goodrem will perform with Guy Sebastian at the Sydney launch of Michael Jackson’s This Is It DVD on March 2.

The pair were hand-picked by the Jackson estate to perform Earth Song at the invitation-only event, backed by a children’s choir.

“It was an honour to hear from the Jackson Estate and have them ask us,” Goodrem says.

“Obviously Michael Jackson was the ultimate performer and it’s going to be a special event.

“I’m looking forward to singing with Guy, he’s such a talent. He holds his own ground and I love that. He’s gone through so much.”

DELTA Goodrem is packing her bags and preparing to move to the US.
The singer confided to friends a long-held plan of relocating long-term to the West Coast of America to work with some of that country’s top songwriters as part of a reinvigorated push to crack the US market.

Record industry sources report Goodrem has responded to criticism that she has become idle waiting for success to come to her by going on the front foot and showing she is ready to commit to the chase.

The singer was last month said to have begun cleaning out the mansion she rents with fiancee Brian McFadden in Hunters Hill.

Sources report that as part of the clean-out she labelled up a huge mountain of clothing for a garage sale. Neither her record label Sony nor management would comment when asked about her relocation plans yesterday.

McFadden has been in Los Angeles working on his own new album release and apparently searching for a base for the couple.

“This year will definitely be a year where she spends a lot of time songwriting in the US,” her rep Jen Fontaine said.

“She is prepared to spend a lot of time over there but I wouldn’t say it was permanent.

“She has been back and forth a lot in recent times and she is prepared to spend as much time there as necessary to make this album but she retains interests here.”

Goodrem is also said to have cut her hair in anticipation of the workload ahead.
